lyrics

When I was a little boy I dreamt about a girl

Who would help me flee from the cruelty and this fucked up shit in this world

But then I learned even the sweetest blossom is blooming, bleeding and paling

So I went to look for a different track, concentrating on plain sailing

I hiked around philosophy, poetry and song

And years had to pass before I found the answer I was searching all along

Our culture is in danger, the state turned authoritarian

The kids were shouting “no future!” and the poet became a barbarian

[Chorus]:

But still here we are, we love music

We love to dance, we love to write poetry

We are the Barbarians of the 21st Century

One fine lovely evening a wise man said to me

“Don’t you care too much about the past

For the future you gotta see!”

Well now dreaming is a luxury and the past is all I know

And there will be no future if we don’t reap the seeds you sowed

We’re feeling, stealing and dealing with the inherited culture

We’re looking back and keeping track of everything like a vulture

But there will be no songs to sing, no books to write and no leg to swing

If we suppress creativity by enforcing copyrights on every god damn thing.

Still…

[Chorus]

We are the depraved kids of the flow

That leads us away from the light of the glow

A song in our hearts and no place to go

Until we hear the noise of the punk rock show

And we sing with full voices and dance around

We jump to the sky and we won’t touch the ground

We’re fighting the system as long as we breathe

United we stand – divided we fall

We’re the black holes in your teeth

We’re tiny store next to your shopping mall

So when I see the people rushing by in cars and trains

Sometimes I start wondering why I’m not part of their game

All the whipping and the tripping just to justify your lives

Really, I am wondering why there is so much strife

And I thought I’d found the answer but I know that I was wrong

This song is just a cry for help, to look at the new dawn

So if you are out there and you feel the same as me

Then come on by and sing along to the chorus that will set you free

[Chorus]
